We’re pleased to present our second program of the 2016/17 Season, Madame Butterfly, which runs from September 22- October 2. Tickets can be purchased through our newly redesigned website. Casting for each performance can also be found on the new website

Based on the opera with a magnificent score by Giacomo Puccini, in an arrangement by John Lanchbery OBE, Madame Butterfly tells the love story of a beautiful Geisha, Cio-Cio San, and a handsome American, Lieutenant Pinkerton. Since its premiere in 1995 by the Australian Ballet, Madame Butterfly has become Mr. Welch’s international signature piece, having entered the repertoires of The National Ballet of Canada, Royal New Zealand Ballet, Singapore Dance Theatre, Boston Ballet, Atlanta Ballet, Ballet West, and Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre.

This will be our third time performing Stanton Welch’s exquisite Madame Butterfly during the main season. To learn more about our past performances of Madame Butterfly visit our redesigned website’s Repertoire section which features the 2012 production.

In addition to Madame Butterfly, we open this program with Stanton Welch’s one-act ballet, Son of Chamber Symphony, which will make its Houston Ballet debut. Watch our Facebook video to learn more from stager Gerard Charles as he describes the intricate rhythms and musicality involved in this piece.
